We are doing a 2 episode series on the Gambino Crime family in New York City. Its not exactly a 2 part episode. Its more like 2 related episodes. In the first one, we cover the life and rise of one of the mafia's most ruthless and feared hit men, Sammy 'The Bull' Gravano, who orchestrated the hit on Gambino boss, Frank Castellano, resulting in John Gotti taking over, which leads to Sammy defecting, and turning rat for the government, in exchange for a deal that brought down the mafia as a whole. We also cover his childhood, and how he rose to be the #2 man in the Gambino family, only to burn it to the ground.
Sammy then joins the witness protection program, and ships out to Arizona where he doesn't stay hidden very long. He writes a book, does interviews, almost gets whacked by the Gambinos, but winds up getting arrested and serving 20 years. Why? Listen to find out. This was a fun episode.
Next episode, we're covering John Gotti. And, we will be joined for commentary with author, and retired NYC detective, Vic Ferarri, who we interviewed on episode 49. A great interview.
Vic has launched a new podcast, where he'll be talking about his life as a NYC detective. Check it out on Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Believe it or not, Sammy 'The Bull' Gravano also has a podcast. Check it out.
